The web app runs in any browser. Add it to your home screen.

The best part starts at home. Scan the bag, and Brew Lab writes the recipe for your grinder and counts you through the pour: the moment a barista leans over and tells you what to change, only without the barista.

Free in your browser and in the iPhone beta. Your palate, your match, your recipe.

See a bag? Say a bag.

Cupd only knows what is really in the hopper because people walk in and say so. That work is worth something, so we pay it in points.

How Taste Match works

Questions we actually get asked.

What is Cupd?

Cupd is a specialty coffee app made in Berlin. It shows you which cafés are pouring coffee that fits your taste right now, and turns the beans you buy into a recipe for your grinder. You can use it in your browser today at my.cupd.app, no account needed to look around. The iPhone app is in a private beta. Join the waitlist and you'll hear from us when it opens.

How does Taste Match work?

Taste Match scores every café against five weighted dimensions of your palate: favourite roasters (31 %), processing (21 %), brewing methods (17 %), origin (17 %) and flavour notes (14 %). Four of the five read the beans a café actually has in the hopper right now, so the score moves when the coffee does. Your drinks decide which of those beans count for you.

Does Cupd cost anything?

No. Cupd is free for everyone who drinks coffee. Cafés pay for Pro features, cafés and roasters for clearly labelled sponsored placements. The sponsored ones sit beside the organic list and never touch your Taste Match ranking.

How can I make my Taste Match better?

Report what you see: the bag on the shelf, the machine or the grinder behind the counter. Logged into the hopper in a few taps, and you get three points on the spot. Two more whenever you confirm someone else's find. Once a second guest reports the same bag, it starts counting toward the Taste Match and earns you seven more.

What is the Brew Lab?

Scan the bag on your counter and the Brew Lab turns it into a recipe tuned to your grinder and gear. Guided Brew then walks you through it step by step with a timer, so the good cup is repeatable instead of lucky. Want a taste now? The free brew guides on this site come with a step timer that runs in your browser.

What is specialty coffee?

Coffee that scores at least 80 of 100 points when trained tasters cup it under the rules of the Specialty Coffee Association (SCA), with no major defects in the green beans: traceable, processed with care and roasted so you can taste where it comes from. In a specialty café you taste fruit, florals or chocolate instead of plain bitterness, and the menu often names the roaster and the farm.

How is Cupd different from other coffee apps?

Most coffee apps list cafés and let people rate them. Cupd looks at what a café is actually pouring today, the beans in its hopper, and matches that to your palate. So instead of “good café, 4.6 stars” you get “this café fits you 92 % right now”, and the recipe for the beans you bought comes with it.

Where can I use Cupd?

Cupd runs in any browser at my.cupd.app, so on Android phones and laptops too, and on iPhone in a private beta. It starts in Berlin, where the specialty scene is dense enough for a match to be useful on the first day. The app already lists specialty cafés in Hamburg, Munich, Vienna, Zurich, Prague, Copenhagen, Stockholm, Oslo, Amsterdam, London, Paris, Lisbon and Barcelona. Matches there get more precise as cafés claim their profiles and fill their hopper.
